Thanks to all those who turned up to help on Saturday. A good number of jobs were tackled keeping the Clubhouse and grounds shipshape for us all.

  • May Bank Holiday weekend -- yes – this coming weekend !!

o    Saturday May 5  10.00 start-- our first adult training session (of three)..  Come along to learn the basics or just brush up a bit before the following regatta.  (Please advise Paul Wilkinson on 01245 280025 or  JLIB_HTML_CLOAKING beforehand).

o    Sunday/Monday May 6/7...   Dinghy regatta and keelboat racing.


  • Saturday May 12 – WORK PARTY.  Lots, as ever, to do and all welcome.


  • Saturday May 19 – cadet training. You all know the drill -- any newbies please contact Paul Wilkinson (as above).


  • Royal Jubilee weekend (Saturday –Tuesday June 2 – 5)..  Lots of sailing starting with the Mayland Mug (Sat) and a three-day regatta starting on Sunday.  Overnight camping encouraged. Bound to be lots occurring so please come down and add to the fun.


  • OPEN DAY -- Saturday June 23.  Fun and food for all the family..  Oh yes, and maybe some mucking about in boats too.  Bring your families and friends...

And now for a couple of club-related issues..


Duties. Thanks to all those who have so far attended to carry out their duties in race-box and support boats.  You have enabled other members to race in safety.  Sadly, despite our efforts to ensure that everyone knows when they have a duty, some members have not done quite so well – and worse, not even warned us of an impending “no-show”.  For safety reasons, the committee has now decided that there will be no dinghy racing without safety boat cover.  So please turn up or at least tell us, so we can swap your duty.  If you have any questions please contact Tom Dayes (01621 893100) or Phil Spillane (01376 329082 or  JLIB_HTML_CLOAKING ).


Safety procedures.  Further to our decision on racing/support-boat cover, we have decided to implement additional procedures to safeguard sailors.  In future, non-racing sailors must complete a signing-on sheet that will be kept alongside the racing sheets.  So anyone going our tootling, cruising (even to sit on their boat in the bay) or on a support boat should complete details so we know who is out there.  It may sound like a rather “Big Brother” attitude but we realise that often we don’t actually know just who is out on the water.  And if we don’t know, we can’t help, or even raise an alarm.


Please help us to help you make the club a safer place.

Easter 2012.


A busy day for all with the keelboat launch seeing all but two of the Sandhoppers on their moorings plus some of the cruisers. It was the usual team effort of putting up masts and moving the boats from the field and winching them down the ramp. The Sandhopper crews swapped MMSI numbers to programme into their new handheld radios, This was a decision taken over the winter to carry radios since the safety boats often do not cover the long courses set for the keelboats and the "Twilight" series often requires communication between boats.



The second keelboat launch day saw a few more boats out on their mooring ready for Sunday racing. The annual "Fitting Out" supper was held at the Generals Arms in Danbury in the evening with Commodore Geoffrey Walkley welcoming the members.


The first day of the Easter regatta was marred buy the safety boat crew failing to turn up for their duties however two short races were run for the keelboats and dinghies in light winds.


The forecast for Monday was not brilliant with gusting W-SW winds and showers. The keelboat turnout was down due to crews other commitments but a good dinghy fleet was out on and in the water with only Chris Grice staying upright.

RYA Power Boat Handling Level 2 Courses.

Two RYA Power Boat Handling level 2 courses were held over the weekend for members, the last of the current series of Club courses before the new sailing season starts.

The courses, tutored by Ken and Tony Clarke from TBYC, consisted of a session in the classroom followed by an the water practical session. With the light winds and sunny weather it proved to be an enjoyable day for all.

Emergency First Aid Course Sunday 11th March.

The Emergency First Aid course was attended by 6 members of the club who now have knowledge of how to tend for injured and unwell members and visitors. It taught candidates how to deal with an emergency at the club until the emergency medical services arrive. Topics covered were accidents and sudden illness. The tutor, Peter Stilts, tailored the course to incidents occurring on land and on board. Students received a first aid book and will be awarded an HSE* approved certificate in due course in Emergency First Aid.

Lunch at the Work House.- Saturday 10th march

work party lunch Pam Hopper supplied a good helping of homemade carrot soap to the helpers on Saturdays work party getting the Club house and equipment ready for the rapidly approaching sailing.

Thanks you to all who turned out. Some useful jobs were competed but more is still to be done so please come and give a hand at the next work party on Saturday March 31st.

Changing RoomMike Hopper puts the finishing touches to the Gents changing room after the new floor and re-decorations are complete. It will never be so tidy and clean again!

March Update.

Renewal forms and Programmes have now been sent out so its time to get those boats ready for the start of the sailing on April 8th.

Gents Changing Rooms.

The re-decoration in the mens changing rooms is progressing well under Mike supervision, Brian and Sue have been busy with the paint brushes, and the floor layers are due in on the 9th March.

Training Courses.

Last Sunday saw the first of the series of training courses with Bob Wale running the VHF/GMDSS radio course for eight members. It was an excellent course with all leaving with their certificates.

The next course is the First Aid on Sunday 11th. March.

Natter & Nosh.

The next Natter & Nosh is on Wednesday 14th March. 19:00.

Come along for some nautical or naughty natter and a bite to eat. Curry from Zara's or Fish and Chips.
