Thank You.

The Commodore and Committee thank all those who turned out to get the Clubhouse, grounds and equipment all shipshape ready for those attending Maylandsea Bay Week. It was especially pleasing to see the numbers of Cadets working hard clearing the field for the campers.

Hi people,

Newsflash -- Please be aware that someone recently forced the gate of the safety boat compound and stole an outboard motor .  The club tender was also removed.  We will review security levels but would appreciate if members, especially those of you who live locally, could keep their eyes open.

And now, a reminder about some key upcoming events:

  • Work Party -- Saturday August 3.  Please come along and help prepare the club for Maylandsea Bay Week .

  • Maylandsea Bay Week '13

o   The 2013 edition is shortly upon us - please get your entry in as we need to know numbers for food.

  • Sailing

o   There is 5 days of dinghy sailing - Monday to Thursday 10 points series races in total, Friday is a one-off dinghy race.

o   Sandhoppers and keelboats will sail Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. The racing starts at 10:55 on the Monday.

o   There will be a sailing briefing at 9:30 for all classes on the Monday morning. The sailing programme will be on the club website.

  • Entertainment and Food

o   Six nights of fantastic entertainment with food every night starting with cheese and wine on Sunday 4th August after registration. The Friday fun race is "ship wrecked" so bring suitable materials and clothing as if you are ship wrecked.

  • Mud Race -- Yes there will be one!!

See you on the 4th August, but get your entries in soon please.

  • Cruise – Saturday August 17

o   The intention is to meet at the club at 8:30a.m. and leave moorings at 9 a.m., just before HW (9:15am). We should be able to pick up moorings on return at about 7:45pm and be ashore at 8 (HW 9:50pm).  Depending on conditions, the plan is to sail to West Mersea for lunch. However, you may wish to bring provisions to keep you going whilst we wait for the evening tide!

Kevin Whittle ( JLIB_HTML_CLOAKING ) will be making contact the week beforehand to gauge numbers. If you have the boat but no crew, or want to come but have no suitable craft, please contact Kevin..

And a couple of points for Safety Boat crews:

  • Please remember to raise the engine as you approach the ramp. A second propeller has just been damaged because of a failure to do this and it is an expensive mistake.
  • Boats have recently got very dirty so please hose down your boat, inside and out, when it is recovered (we don't expect it to be scrubbed, just washed down!!).

Hope to see you all soon.

Open Day June 8th

What a fantastic day we had! Many, many smiling faces of visitors and members alike.

The weather was kind to us with a good wind and, eventually, some sunshine.

We provided 14 boats for nearly 50 visitors  of all ages to come and share the fun of sailing with us.

A very big thank you to all those who helped on the Work Party the previous week to make the club spick & span, the helms & crews today, the safety boat crews, the on-shore team, the galley, the face painters & bouncy castle attendants. You all did a fantastic job in making the club a welcoming place to visit.

To our visitors: if you enjoyed your sail with us today and are considering joining MBSC please feel free to visit us again on a racing/training day. To arrange another visit you can contact any of the committee listed on the Who's Who page.
