MBSC August Newsletter 2015.

Firstly I'd like to take the opportunity to thank Lisa and Committee for organising an excellent Maylandsea Bay Week (MBW).
Following on from a very competitive MBW let's keep sailing and get those boats out again. There is racing most weekends through to the end of September (and beyond). Some of the highlights include:
Sunday 23rd August - MBSCramble race - an all in race with a twist at the start
Saturday 29th - Monday 31st - 3 day Regatta with over night camping. The Sunday race for Sandhoppers is for the Len Wright Trophy. Please participate in memory of long serving member, Sandhopper stalwart and past commodore Len Wright.
Saturday 12th - Final Club Training day of 2015 plus it's the Sandhopper Nationals at TBYC
Saturday 19th - Training Fleet Regatta Day
Sunday 20th - Official Barts Bash Day - our club racing will count towards Barts Bash - the club is registered.
Sunday 27th - the Blackwater Barts Bash - as per last year the Blackwater Clubs will be hosting a mass start on the morning of the 27th September. There will be two starts in the vicinity of Osea Island. Exact start time to be confirmed but be ready to leave as soon as possible - by 10:15.
That's all for now.

Maylandsea Bay Week 2015

This is the last shout for anyone who wants to attend in any way.  If you want to be involved and haven't registered your interest yet then please complete the attached entry form and send with your remittance to Paul Gray.

Evelyn Darby Ladies Race - Saturday 1st August

The second running of the above race takes place soon so get together ladies and choose your partners, or sail alone.  Can anyone wrestle the trophy from Jules Dawson and Lisa Pollard?

Scramble Race - 23rd August

Time for something different on the date above.  Do you know what a scramble race is? No, well nor do I so we'll all just have to wait for further details to follow.

Sailing Regatta and Sandhopper Open - Bank Holiday Weekend 29th - 31st August

Come on down!  I expect it will be busy and a number of us will be camping at the club, so why not join us for daytime sailing and evening socialising in the bar.

Bart's Bash (in Memory of Olympic Sailor Andrew Simpson)

We will be participating, and are currently liaising with other Blackwater clubs about holding the event on the official race day of 21st September, rather than the 27th September as printed in our race programme.  We'll let you know the outcome.

Any ideas

We will be thinking about next year's programme soon so if you have any ideas or comments then please forward them to Paul Wilkinson ( JLIB_HTML_CLOAKING ) by the end of September.

That's all for now, hope to see you soon.

MBSC Newsletter June 2015

Hi All,

There are a number of things to tell you about this month.
Cruise to West Mersea - Saturday 27th June

Members will be meeting at the club next Saturday to take a cruise across to West Mersea, setting sail at 9.20am and returning in the evening. Please come along, just pack a picnic to have on the beach or opt for a pub lunch.  If you have any queries regarding this then please email me and I'll do my best to answer them.  The west dinghy park will also be available for camping overnight.
Maylandsea Bay Family Week 2015

Thank you to those of you that have already entered Maylandsea Bay Week. For those who haven’t, this is a reminder that you need to get your entries to Paul Gray by next Friday 26th June in order to avoid the surcharge. The reason is so that we know how many people to cater for, so we are happy to accept entry forms even if payment comes in later (before the start of the week).  Entry documents were included with the May newsletter.

Training sessions have been going well even though we've had to endure strong winds for the last couple.  There are still three more sessions to come on 4th July, 18th July and 12th September to be followed by the training regatta on 19th September.  Why not come along and improve your skills, the sessions are really good value at just £5 a time.

Dinghy Park Plots

Just a reminder that although all the open grassland at the club is regularly mown throughout the season, club rules state that you must keep your individual plots tidy.  You can do this using the club mower or strimmer that can be found in the garage.  Just ask for help if you have problems firing them up!

Also just a reminder that you should now be tying your boats down to avoid damage to boats during bouts of strong wind.

Mast Rack

Later on this year we will be tidying up the dinghy rack so can we ask that if you do have/or leave a mast on the rack that you clearly label it by the end of August to ensure we don't scrap any that belong to you.

Thanks for reading, if you have any questions then just let me know.

MBSC Newsletter May 2015

Hi All,

Please find below the latest updates from the club.

Maylandsea Bay Week 2015

Our annual sailing and social week will this year take place from 27th - 31st July and is terrific value at only £75 per person for sailing, food and entertainment.  Please go to Maylandsea Bay Week section HERE for full details and the entry application form.

Open Day
Thank to all those members who turned up on the day to run various activities including sailing experiences for our visitors.  The day worked really well and special thanks must go to Craig Beech for organising it.

Training Days

This Saturday 30th May sees the first of three consecutive Saturdays of training days.  Any member who would appreciate some training should contact Paul Wilkinson ( JLIB_HTML_CLOAKING ) for more details.

Unfortunately our new galley hand will be unavailable this coming weekend for personal reasons so once again members coming sailing should bring their own provisions to the club.  This will hopefully be for one weekend only but may extend to two but I will let you know if that turns out to be the case.

On Saturday 27th June, weather permitting we will embark on a cruise to Mersea Island, beaching/anchoring our boats before spending a few hours wining and dining on the beach waiting for the tide to come back in.  Upon our return members are welcome to camp in the dinghy park overnight and make use of  the club's facilities.

That's all for now folks.

Absolution! Another Win for MBSC Boat.

Sunday 10th May 0830 Bradwell Line.

On Sunday a BCOSS fleet of 21 boats gathered at the No12 race mark, for the first event in the BCOSS series.

Competitors, represented seven sailing clubs from the Rivers Blackwater & Colne, competed in both the White Sail class and the IRC/Local handicap classes, in the Colne YC event.

None were a match for Absolution sailed by Eric Reynolds and his crew from the Maylandsea Bay SC, winning both the IRC class and the local handicap class.

Full report and results can be seen under the "Club Cruiser News and Race Results'

Saturday 16th May 2015.

It is with great sadness that we have to inform you of the death of Leonard (Len) Wright former Commodore and long standing member of the club and the Sandhopper fleet. We would like to send our condolences to Bill, Barbara and the rest of the family at this difficult time.

Funeral details will be notified once the arrangements have been finalised as I'm sure many of you will wish to attend.
Can we ask that if you are in touch with any of Len's old friends who are no longer members of the club then please inform them of this sad news.
