MBSC Newsletter May 2019

Commodores “In the Red” Shorts

Easter was a fantastic weekend for sailing with seven competitive races over the four days. The club had a great buzz and liveliness to it with over 30 people participating in the Saturday night social. The next social and 3 day regatta is over the Mayday bank holiday weekend.

May is a busy month for the club. There are plenty of opportunities for members to participate and enjoy the club. With have a work party followed by the “push the boat out” open day– remember last year we took out over 60 people and attracted new members – please invite your friends, families, colleagues to try sailing at MBSC on Saturday 18th May. At the end of the month we start our regular Saturday training sessions. All those joining at the open day will be able to participate in all the training sessions.

Kestrels have returned to the club with 8 boats with 6 out over Easter. Peter Freshwater observed that the club is going retro with fleets of Sandhoppers, Kestrels and Wayfarers. However, the Pico’s remain the largest fleet.

See you down the club, on and off the water.

Ausome Charity takes on the 2019 Fastnet Race
Later this year thanks to MBSC member Miles Delap's boat loan the Ausome Charity will be taking part in the Rolex Fastnet Race with a predominantly autistic crew.  As you may know his son Max was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome 12 years ago and has, in part, been able to develop socially through sailing.  Max will be taking part as a member of the crew and we hope that fellow MBSC member Ben Grice will be able to join him.  Please take time to read the press release through the link below and if possible offer your help in any way that you can.
Push the Boat Out - Saturday 18th May
As already stated in the Commodores Shorts we have our annual open day on Saturday 18th May where as usual we will be looking to get as many guests out on the water as possible.
We'd like as many members as possible down at the club to help deliver a great experience so we look forward to seeing you there from 10.00am to get things set up.  We're open to the public from 11.30am.
Work Party - Saturday 11th May
To prepare the club for Push The Boat Out day we are running a work party on the above date commencing at 10.00 am.  As usual all volunteers are welcome.
Dutyman
There's now a direct link to the Dutyman website at the bottom of the menu on the club website.  If you've used it before from the computer you're using this will open with your name already in the user name field and you'll just need to enter your password.  If you've not used it yet, then use the link, change the user name to your name and create a password so that you can review your duties.  If you need assistance then email  JLIB_HTML_CLOAKING
Alternatively you can attend Phil's Dutyman clinic after sailing in the bar this Sunday between 5.00pm and 6.00pm.
Winch box key
The winch box key is now in a box on the wall near the ladies changing room door. Please leave the main isolation switch on in the storage cupboard. If you want training on the winch and access to the key please contact me.

May Day Weekender

Hi All,

The Easter weekend is now a pleasant memory, and with it our first social of the year – the chicken casserole and ‘whist with a twist’. Plenty of good feedback, so we can now look forward to the next event – the ‘May Day Weekender’. Our intention is to create a mini Maylandsea Week, so plenty of people camping , and days and nights filled with fun events. An outline of the programme for the weekend is below.

Saturday 4th May

12:00 – 16:00     Sailing

16:30 – 18:00     Challenge Games

18:00 – 19:00     Fish & Chips @ £6.00pp

19:30 – 21:30     Rock & Roll Bingo

Sunday 5th May

12:15 – 16:00     Sailing

17:00 – 18:00     Dutyman Clinic

18:00 – 19:00     BBQ @ £5.00pp

19:30 – 21:30     Quiz Nite

Monday 6th May

10:00 – 11:30     Treasure Hunt

12:45 – 16:30     Sailing

17:00 – 17:30     Prize Giving

It is very important that we know how many people to cater for – so that we can warn the chippy how many meals we need (and get our special price), and so that we can buy the correct quantities for the BBQ on Sunday. Please let me know if you are coming, or even if you are not, so that we best prepare for another excellent weekend. Please email  JLIB_HTML_CLOAKING or provide a response on Facebook.

Look forward to seeing as many of you as possible soon
