Kayaks, Paddleboards & Windsurfers

Inline with the times, we are broadening our horizons at Maylandsea Bay S.C. with the introduction of events for Kayaks, Paddleboards & Windsurfers. These have all been welcome at the club but in the past not fully catered for. We have now addressed this with programmed events throughout the season. Most types of pleasure craft are welcome providing they only use wind or paddle propulsion. In addition to the programmed events, we can now also offer storage on outside racks.

Windsurfing

At MBSC windsurfing couldn't be easier, the car park is next to the rigging area, which is next to the shingle beach where there are two launching ramps. Our bay is unique due to the shape of the marsh saltings and that we're a mile from the main river, which means flat water sailing from most directions with a lesser tidal flow. It's a great place to learn or progress and fantastic for speed runs on flat water. There's a wide range of ability from beginner to experienced and we're happy to help you progress whether it's learning the basics or to advance with harness use, gybes or water starts. We also do longboard trips around Osea Island and to Maldon. If you have any questions we can get one of our sailors to contact you.

 Kayaking/Stand up paddleboard.

At MBSC we have some very keen paddlers across all ages who are on the water all year round. They paddle a wide range of boats as well as Stand Up Paddleboards. We are very lucky to have a large marsh full of narrow creeks that are great fun to explore and calm in any wind. There's a small colony of seals, which can be seen sunning themselves on the marsh; they're very curious and occasionally like to follow the kayaks, especially in the spring when the pups are born.

We frequently do organized trips venturing up and down the Blackwater Estuary. Launching couldn't be easier as the car park is near our two launching ramps and shingle beach.
