Covid 19 Update August

Risk Assessment Covid 19 MBSC Sailing Week

More good news for the upcoming sailing week and for sailing in general.

Measures have been put in place to allow changing rooms, showers, and the bar to reopen, albeit with restrictions as set out below. Please use the hand sanitiser provided on entry to the Clubhouse and use the cleaning equipment provided to wipe down any surfaces that you have come in contact with.

Toilets – are accessible as previously advised.

Changing Rooms – members are encouraged to arrive at the Club ready to sail. Where use of changing rooms is necessary, use should be limited to 4 people at a time. Keep socially distanced from those outside of your household. No clothing or other items should be left in the changing rooms.

Showers – members are encouraged to shower at home where practical. Where use of showers is necessary, use is restricted to two of the showers in each changing room, the middle shower has been disabled.

Bar – the duty officer may allow members to access the bar to buy their own drinks. Club glasses should not be used, so members should bring their own plastic glasses for use in the Club grounds. Cash payments remain possible, but contactless card payment is encouraged with which the duty officer will assist.

Galley – the galley remains closed, but access to the galley area is allowed on the same basis as the bar to allow members to make hot drinks.

Clubhouse seating areas – members are encouraged to use the Club lawn where possible. As a result, the upstairs and downstairs seating areas within the Clubhouse will generally be closed. The duty officer can allow these areas to open if sitting outside is not practical. Remember to bring your own chairs for use on the Club lawn, as Club benches will not be available.

Covid 19 update July

Following discussion amongst the committee and guidance from the RYA we are disappointed to confirm that the clubhouse will have to remain closed for the time being until government advice is loosened further.  Access to toilets only can be gained via the back door.

There is one minor update and that is that one person at a time will be able to access the garage to remove/return pico masts and sails from the new mast racks built by Bill Wright on the garage wall.  Access can be gained by speaking to the duty officer.  Club boats remain unavailable for use.

MBSC Coronavirus sailing update to members May 2020

Following the Prime Minister’s May 10th update regarding the easing of some Coronavirus restrictions we can confirm that casual sailing is now permitted, i.e. taking your boat out for a sail either on your own or with members of your own household where your boat is designed for two or more people.   You should take all reasonable precautions that would normally apply to casual sailing.  Regrettably for now the clubhouse and facilities remain closed.

· Study the forecast before you go for the entire duration of your planned sail and make sure you are competent in your sailing ability to handle the conditions.

· Take a means of communicating with you in order to contact the shore/emergency services if you do get into serious trouble and you cannot raise help by other means.  Please remember calling the RNLI to assist in the current circumstances will result in putting a number of people including yourselves at risk.

· Where possible stay within sight of other people as this could help mitigate the need for the above.

It is also permitted for you to work maintaining your boat whilst observing social distancing but it is currently not permissible to sleep overnight on club grounds currently.

The committee are currently sourcing hand sanitiser dispensers for the club but as you can imagine these are on a long lead time currently and until then we would like members to refrain from entering the clubhouse.

We also need to consider the perception of our activities by those that live locally so you should avoid the following.

· Arranging to meet other members at the club as this could be construed as social gathering.

· If others are at the club, refrain from standing around talking in groups for the same reason as above.

· Launching or landing at the same time as others as this could be mistaken for organised racing and this would constitute social gathering which is not permitted currently.

Please remember that you should follow government guidelines regarding cleanliness so you should bring hand sanitiser with you for now as you will be touching surfaces that others have touched, e.g. the combination padlock and the gate.

If any member requires the code for the combination padlock then please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
